Ukrainian Classics Library

Where a Ukrainian word or belief has no English equivalent, it is kept and explained rather than quietly replaced. Nothing is flattened for convenience.

The series brings the enduring works of Ukrainian literature to English-language readers in new, carefully prepared editions. Each volume pairs a faithful literary translation with the context an English reader needs: an introduction to the author and the work, notes on folklore, history, and language, and commentary on the choices behind the translation itself.

Authors in the series: Taras Shevchenko, Lesya Ukrainka, Osyp Turiansky, Volodymyr Vynnychenko, Andrii Chaikovsky, Ivan Franko, Yevhen Hrebinka, Oleksa Slisarenko and Panteleimon Kulish.

Further volumes are in preparation.
