The families, the permits, the ambiguity, the "Nine Dragons" who became the "Nine Haji" and will become whatever name power wears next—all of it has been mapped throughout the twenty chapters of this book.
The most unsettling discovery is not corruption. Corruption is merely theft dressed up as a profession. What this book reveals is something far colder: a system so carefully constructed that it does not depend on dishonest people to survive. It only requires rational ones.
That is what makes it so resilient. It runs through ordinary people making ordinary decisions, without anyone needing to pull the strings. Every payment, every purchase, every business decision, every vote becomes another small movement that keeps the machine running.
Indonesia was not captured by the wealthy. They were part of the system from the beginning.
So what will you do now that you can see the game?
Before you answer, remember this: the system existed long before you were born. It has survived every crisis, every reform movement, every administration, and every promise of change. It has encountered people who understood it before, yet it remains.
This book cannot tell you whether you will change the way you play now that you know the rules. That is the only question that matters.
Or perhaps the people who wrote the rules already knew exactly what you would do once you finished reading.
Enjoy the journey.
