About this ebook

Fifteen years. Zero witnesses. One secret. Then the blood magic started.

Detective Jake Morrison closes impossible murders because he can feel when the killer isn't human. His colleagues call it instinct. Jake calls it survival. But the bodies turning up in the French Quarter — drained to dust, arranged around symbols older than the city — are something even he has no name for.

Seraphina Ciel does. Former Angel of Judgment. Current keeper of New Orleans' three-hundred-year-old wards. She's watched them crack, murder by ritual murder, and she knows what's coming through if they fall.

The first time they touch, the shockwave makes Jake visible to every predator in the city — and hands them both a bond that doesn't just connect them. It rewrites them. His mercy is becoming her judgment. Her certainty is eroding everything he's built his silence on. The necromancer dismantling the wards has been planning this for three hundred years, and Mardi Gras — a million joyful, oblivious hearts strong — is the fuse.

To save the city, they'll have to survive each other first.

Tropes & content include: paranormal detective romance · fallen angel x homicide detective · forced proximity · he falls first · justice vs. mercy · touch-starved immortal · trust as the kink · found family · New Orleans atmosphere thick enough to drink
Steam: explicit, high heat, with a power-exchange edge. 18+.
HEA: hard-won and on the page — no cliffhanger. Reads as a standalone.

I was intrigued to see how the female angel would navigate the romantic bond. There are pieces of Seraphina in most women. We must be strong, clear in execution to move forward, uncompromising for the things that matter, and still have just enough give to trust in someone else. Jake was the foil that understood her why and made the conscious choice to move in step and adjust the course instead of demanding a whole new direction. Great book!

Seraphina and Jake’s story takes place in Bew Orleans and has all of the elements I love about that town. It’s got history, multiple religious traditions and real supernatural elements. It’s book 3 in the Fallen Response Unit ( FRU ), series, but it reads as a standalone with cameo appearances from the other angels. The characters are well written and fully fleshed out, the storyline is amazing and happens over several centuries, but culminates at Mardi Gras. 5✨’s and I can’t wait to read book 4
