Rena Edwards is a TESOL-certified English teacher and communication coach who has spent more than fifteen years helping adult learners speak English with clarity, warmth, and confidence. Her career began in Madrid, where she taught evening classes to working professionals, and continued with university teaching in Japan and private coaching for professionals, immigrants, and international students in Canada. Those classrooms taught her the same lesson again and again: most learners already know more English than they think they do. The gap between knowing a language and speaking it is rarely a gap in memory — it is a gap in confidence, practice, and the right kind of guidance.
Her teaching philosophy is practical and conversation-first. She builds her lessons around the real situations her students actually face — job interviews, medical appointments, parent-teacher meetings, sales calls — and she has trained dozens of other teachers in the same approach through workshops and teacher-development programs across Europe, Asia, and online. She is a passionate believer in small daily habits, learner autonomy, and the idea that a mistake spoken aloud is worth more than a perfect sentence kept silent.
*Speak English Confidently* grew directly out of her classroom. The dialogues, phrase lists, and role plays in these chapters are the ones she has tested and refined with hundreds of students, and the strategies in them reflect what actually works when real people open their mouths and take their chances. Rena holds a master's degree in applied linguistics and is a certified TESOL instructor. She lives in Toronto with her family and, in her own time, is eagerly learning her fourth language — badly, happily, and out loud — because she believes no teacher should ever forget what it feels like to be a beginner.
