Along the way, I’ve also learned that not everyone will understand who we are — and that’s okay. For a long time, I thought it mattered whether people saw me, whether they truly knew me. But I’ve realised that seeking validation from others only takes us further from ourselves. Life is heavy enough without carrying the expectations others place upon us — especially when those expectations serve their happiness and not our own. It’s easy to absorb negativity, especially when it comes from those we love. Maybe that’s why it hurts so deeply. Sometimes I wish empathy were a switch we could flick on in others, so they could feel what we feel before they judge or speak. Maybe then, the world — and its view of people like us — would be a gentler place. But until that day comes, we find our way through the noise, guided by those who understand without explanation, and by the quiet strength we’ve built within ourselves.
So, three years on, I decided to write this sequel — not to repeat the past, but to reflect upon it. To ask myself the lingering questions: Was I disappointed because they never really knew me at all? Or perhaps… am I simply evolving? In this new chapter of PAGES OF SOLITUDE: MAYBE I'M JUST EVOLVING, I’ll be weaving in some of my favourite quotes, film dialogues, and song lyrics — words that have resonated with my spirit and mirrored my emotions in ways I sometimes couldn’t express myself. These fragments of art and truth have walked beside me on my journey, and now I share them with you — as pieces of my soul, as echoes of moments that shaped me.
Brian Phokeerdoss is a writer whose work stands at the intersection of emotional truth, historical revelation, and personal evolution. His voice is unmistakably introspective — steady, honest, and unafraid to explore the quiet corners of the human experience. Through his writing, Brian creates space for the stories that live beneath the surface: the unseen wounds, the misunderstood identities, the overlooked histories, and the private battles fought in silence.
His work is driven by two intertwined forces:
a deep need to understand the inner world, and
a fierce commitment to telling the truths history tried to erase.
A Writer of Depth, Healing, and Reckoning
Brian’s personal journey — through emotional manipulation, misunderstood childhood, solitude, cultural displacement, and generational wounds — informs the emotional clarity of his work. His writing often confronts subjects many shy away from: narcissistic abuse, masculine vulnerability, family judgment, racial injustice, trauma, and the long, quiet path toward healing.
But at the centre of all his books lies a single message:
growth often begins where silence once lived.
Brian writes for those who have been unseen, unheard, or misread.
For those who feel deeply.
For those who carry empathy without receiving it.
And for those who are ready to evolve at
their own pace.
