About this ebook

Easy Summary- The Owl and the Midnight Library

Wildlife, friendship, history, and excitement are all parts of The Owl and the Midnight Library. It takes place in Willowmere Village, where there has been an old library since 1898. There are noisy wooden floors, narrow stairs, dusty rooms, and shelves full of old books in the library.

Elsie Hart, who is twelve years old, loves going to the library. Martha Hart, her grandmother, has worked there for many years and often needs help. Elsie likes reading quietly at night, putting books back on the shelves, and stamping books that have been returned.

Something strange happens one fall. At night, a barn owl starts to show up outside the attic window. For a while, Elsie thinks it's just hungry. She quickly learns that the owl is after mice that got into the attic through wall cracks.

Elsie, Noah, and Priya, Elsie's friends, look into the mice and find a secret place in the library wall. They found an old book that was written by a naturalist who lived in Willowmere almost one hundred years ago, Eleanor Finch.

In her diary, Eleanor writes about a town with hedges, ponds, wildflower meadows, butterflies, birds, and many other animals. Elsie knows that a lot of these animals are no longer here.

The kids plan to become eco-friendly. Behind the library, they make a wildlife garden and work to protect an old field close to the church. They also tell other people in the village to make their gardens wildlife-friendly.

Elsie learns that stories aren't just in books through their trip. They can also live in memories, old buildings, and places that people have forgotten. It starts with the barn owl and ends with an experience that changes Elsie, the library, and Willowmere Village for good.
