About this ebook

The Ones Who Looked Away is the fourth novel in The Worlds That Remember, a speculative-fiction cycle exploring memory, love, freedom, loss, and the consequences of choice.

Before the Garden fell, someone saw what love would cost — and looked away.

Selian and Tiriel stand at the edge of a terrible question: if suffering can be foreseen, is it mercy to prevent it—or does love require allowing another person the freedom to choose, even when that choice may lead to pain?

As fear begins to disguise itself as protection, the desire to save others becomes something more dangerous: the temptation to control them.

Blending science fiction, myth, philosophy, and deeply human emotion, The Ones Who Looked Away explores the boundary between love and possession, mercy and interference, and asks whether freedom can remain sacred when we know what it may cost.

About the author

William G. Boundroukas is an Illinois attorney and author whose work explores responsibility, faith, family, memory, endurance, and the quiet obligations people carry when life does not offer easy answers.

After more than three decades practicing law, Boundroukas began publishing fiction, poetry, and practical nonfiction drawn from the worlds he knows best: professional responsibility, family life, caregiving, loss, faith, and the experience of continuing when stopping is not an option.

His books include literary and Christian fiction, the speculative series The Worlds That Remember, the Still Functioning books, and poetry collections including Still Standing and By What It Does. Though his books move across different genres, they return to a common question: what does it mean to remain present, responsible, and loving when circumstances cannot simply be fixed?

Boundroukas lives and works in the Chicago area. His writing is shaped by his Greek-American background, Orthodox Christian faith, legal career, and life as a husband and father.

He writes not primarily to provide answers, but to recognize the people who continue to carry, witness, love, and stay.
