About this ebook

An ordinary boy encounters the paranormal when a photo of the same girl starts inexplicably showing up in every book he opens. One day, the girl reaches out and pulls him into the photo to her location: a cell in a top-secret facility belonging to the SCP Foundation, an organization dedicated to the research and containment of people, objects and phenomena that defy reality! Even worse: they've deemed him a threat to be contained, and he's going to have to work with them if he ever wants to see the outside world again!

The opening is slow, but it hits a few good points before we get a ride through the Carnival of Horrors. It has a good narrative going up to about the half way point, then drops it in favor of an episodic approach. The bit with SCP-912 also doesn't make a lotta sense from the way it's told, and it's not scary, which is a problem for something based on a horror wiki. It's toothless and the happy ending felt meaningless. Didn't touch on the larger universe of the SCP Foundation, which is a throughly missed opportunity. Also very limited on the types of SCPs. No type greens, no spiritual entities, no bio freaks, not even the damn reptile was mentioned. Still, not bad for a 9 buck light novel. It just needs more, and need to touch more on the horror aspect. Not just of the SCPs, but of the Foundation, related and rival organizations and that universe itself.

I had a really great time with this book and eagerly await more volumes. This book definitely reads more like an Isekai light novel than it reads like a SCP story; I'd say this book is closer to an SCP-themed slice of life, as it keeps the horror light (save for a few moments and one chapter) and has a fairly bouncy and lighthearted tone. Fans of light novels who are interested in a light introduction to the SCP universe should look no further-- existing fans of SCP material, especially those who enjoy the parts of it that are darker in tone and heavier in horror, may find this book lacking in that sort of content. In both cases, however, this book is a solid read, and I hope we get more volumes in the future with a broader range of content to keep all fans sated.
