Finlay Donovan Is Killing It: A Novel

Mistaken impressions end in drama & skullduggery😯 I thought the main idea was really well developed, with Finlay, the divorced mother of two tots, falling into the role of a reluctant suburban assassin quite by accident. Her adventures in the world of paid hits on erring husbands and Mafia figures was entertaining, especially the way, through dumb luck, she and her intrepid sidekick Vero skate through dangerous situations. Innocent coffee shop meeting with her agent to paid assassin? Whimsy+!

This book was very easy to read. I could easily loose 2 or 3 hours in this book. The plot twist got me a lot sadly they were mainly in the first 2/3rds of the book but after that it felt like a will they won't they end up together love maybe square maybe triangle. Sure Finlay wasn't attached to anyone but it felt like a subplot I had to keep in my head was "who will she choose?" Mainly because I know whoever she hung around added to the plot. Everytime I thought I had something figured out they'd swerve me and I think a lot of people that read this would feel that way. This book is extremely smart and things fall into place perfectly and that's kind of my main issue. I knew everything would work out for Finlay no matter if it subverted every expectation I had I knew she would be fine and it took away from the tension for me. Spoilery thoughts * Many Kisses, no sex (Which I liked) contrary to many horror related things. * Finlay's sister is a lesbian. * Finlay could've stayed single.

Finlay Donovan is Killing It was definitely a BookstaMadeMeDoIt and then let it sit on my shelf for a while after I got it. That tends to happen a lot. 😂😂 Once again, buddy reading is the champ. This one makes for a fun one too. Right away, I am laughing and connecting. I can relate to a lot of what Finlay goes thru as a mother. That is, of course, where it ends as her life spirals out of control into absolute comedic chaos. Vero is awesome and made the story better. I want a Vero 😂😂 I also enjoyed the love interests and felt they added a nice touch. The ending though ??!! So glad I already have book 2 😂😂 Overall, this is a well-done flip side of a cozy mystery (that's the feel this gives me), and one I say grab and enjoy. Find me on Instagram: @bookn.all.night
