About this ebook
THE INSTANT #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER
Once Upon a Time meets The Office in Hannah Maehrer’s laugh-out-loud viral TikTok series turned novel, about the sunshine assistant to an Evil Villain...and their unexpected romance.
ASSISTANT WANTED: Notorious, high-ranking villain seeks loyal, levelheaded assistant for unspecified office duties, supporting staff for random mayhem and terror, and other Dark Things In General. Discretion a must. Excellent benefits.
With ailing family to support, Evie Sage's employment status isn't just important, it's vital. So when a mishap with Rennedawn’s most infamous Villain results in a job offer—naturally, she says yes. No job is perfect, of course, but even less so when you develop a teeny crush on your terrifying, temperamental, and undeniably hot boss. Don’t find evil so attractive, Evie.
But just when she’s getting used to severed heads suspended from the ceiling and the odd squish of an errant eyeball beneath her heel, Evie suspects this dungeon has a huge rat...and not just the literal kind. Because something rotten is growing in the kingdom of Rennedawn, and someone wants to take the Villain—and his entire nefarious empire—out.
Now Evie must not only resist drooling over her boss but also figure out exactly who is sabotaging his work...and ensure he makes them pay.
After all, a good job is hard to find.
The Assistant and the Villain series is best enjoyed in order.

good book. but the characters are very flat and unrealistic. the main character is too obsessed with looks. evie's "trauma" isn't even that deep, her attitude is annoying. and less that two chapters in, she talks about how she had every right to be a villain. it's also very cliche, along with cringe moments (like the one I listed earlier) that make you wanna just close the book and burn it.

Magical, Fun, cute story. Evie has been trying to take care of her family since her father is ill, and she stumbles into a new career with the infamous villain, and she learns that not all things are as they seem. I really enjoyed this story and I can’t wait to see what comes next. I found the characters well developed and likable.

I bought this book 100% due to the author's TikTok and YouTube videos, and the book did not disappoint! It has everything a good fantasy office rom-com should - morally grey characters, "touch-her-and-die", grumpy/sunshine dynamics and loads of sexual tension. I cannot wait for book 2!
About the author
Hannah Nicole Maehrer is a #1 New York Times bestselling author with a penchant for villains. She's primarily known for the Assistant and the Villain series and secondarily known for using humor to cope at inappropriate times —a strength in her day-to-day writing.
Before she was an author, she worked primarily in childcare and teaching emotions management. Ironically, her characters' emotions remain chaotic and unmanageable. Her work tends to mimic her life, which is made up of a very large, very loud, and very loving family, who remain her favorite characters and her primary source of inspiration in fiction. No matter how many years pass, from the time she read her first fairy tale, her passions have remained: romance, joy, laughter, and finding ways to incorporate them in everything she creates. hannahnicolemae.com
