About this ebook
"A lightweight poet and a ghastly sinner."
Just Pushing My Luck is a fierce, unapologetic poetry collection that strips back the polished veneer of polite literature to explore the chaotic intersection of fate, superstition, and free speech. Moving between the high-stakes risk of the poker table and the biting realities of a rain-slicked commute, Darren Hobson delivers a chest-honest look at humanity’s desperate obsession with beating the odds.
Do not expect safe, comfortable verse. In this expanded edition, mundane domestic frustrations explode into pitch-black comedy and shocking, hyper-realistic twists—where a hilariously unlucky day of sewage mishaps crashes headfirst into devastating personal betrayal. Beneath the self-deprecating humour and recurring vignettes of Pot Noodles and grounding black cats lies a fierce, unyielding defence of free expression, standing defiant against religious hypocrisy, Vatican corruption, and censorship in the wake of geopolitical tragedy.
Delivering a blunt, colloquial, stream-of-consciousness delivery that reads like a live spoken-word performance, Hobson embraces his status as an outsider. This is a raw, visceral survival guide for the unluckiest among us, written by an independent voice that refuses to compromise.
