She was on her way to work for the professor at the university where she had to get a credit to be a teacher's assistant to be able to graduate. The one professor that she wanted absolutely nothing to do with not only because she didn't take his class but because he had a reputation of being a jerk. When she received the phone call that changed her life, she was right outside the door to his office. Once she hung up the phone, she knew that everything in her life was now upside down. And the one person in the world that she had never expected to be nice to her was the one who was holding her together.

Max was not only a professor, but he was also one of the top leading cold case detectives in the country. He didn't want to be a professor, but at this point he had no options left as he continued to do the work of two or three people. It was something that most people had overlooked. He really wasn't interested in teaching the new minds of law enforcement or even being used as a recruiting tool himself. The one thing he did not want was an assistant, but the moment she walked into his office he couldn't help himself from watching her very closely. He knew what his reputation was and the way that she acted towards him proved that she also believed that reputation.

The opportunity of a lifetime had been given to him the moment she had gotten off the phone.
