About this ebook

As a cartography student, Jak has always dreamed of finding the lost dragon gate and exploring and mapping distant worlds.

Developing magical powers and becoming a powerful wizard? Not a chance.

Wizards are cruel and inhumane, warring with each other from their great sky cities and keeping most of humanity enslaved. Jak wants nothing to do with them.

But when he and his archaeologist mother unearth the gate, they attract the attention of the very wizards they sought to avoid. Even more troubling, Jak starts developing magical powers of his own, powers that could rival those of the great rulers.

Fate may have given him the opportunity to change the world.

But the wizard rulers don’t like change, and when they detect threats, they send their elite assassins to eliminate them.

If Jak can’t unlock the power of the gate, and the powers within himself, the world will remain enslaved forever.

The One Too See

The book is overloaded with "ideal" men and completely unrealistic women. The character dynamics feel manufactured rather than authentic, seemingly written to satisfy a specific fantasy rather than to tell a compelling story. It creates an artificial environment where the characters don't behave like actual people, making it impossible to stay invested in their journey or their struggles. But by far the most unforgivable aspect of Dragon Gate is that it is fundamentally boring. It is an exhausting read that fails to offer anything substantial, leaving you with nothing but a wasted investment of time.

would be an ok read if you're a young kid as is, not interesting too much useless details trying to set up the storyline and characters

Enjoyed this book enough to buy the next in this series. The main reason I'm giving it a 4* instead of a 5* is the fight scenes. They are well thought out, but it's very obvious she didn't check with anyone with martial arts or combat experience. It's would help with the flow of those scenes... I just couldn't picture in any way how you could upper-cut to the stomach after bowling into someone, knocking them back, then headbutt when their face when came forward. Maybe if you are 4"5... Just throwing out words like upper-cut or sidekick without knowing what biomechanics are involved or basic physics kills the flow of the story. For me, it was like driving 60mph over a speed bump when I really was enjoying everything else.
