The Staircase in the Woods

A psychological horror that mostly focuses on trauma, particularly of a group of friends who grew apart and never fully grew into emotionally intelligent humans. Well-written. A quick read but also a bit repetitive. Too much focus on trauma and not enough on character development, in my opinion. Lacked suspense. Not bad, but also meh.

This book was an absolute delight! The perfect mix of lighthearted fun, swoon-worthy romance, and a touch of mystery kept me hooked from start to finish. The hero, haunted by his experiences in France, was both compelling and endearing, while the heroine, hiding a well-kept secret, added depth to the story. Their chemistry crackled with just the right amount of spice, making every interaction sizzle with anticipation.

This book sucked me right in. I thought we would spend most of the book circling around the stairs and where they take you, but the story just jumped right in and started presenting the horrors. The descriptions and people were written so well and I loved the ending. I'm definitely going to read more by this author.
