About this ebook

An epic fantasy filled with adventure, intrigue, and romance from the New York Times bestselling coauthor of My Plain Jane, perfect for fans of Graceling by Kristin Cashore, The Girl of Fire and Thorns by Rae Carson, and Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo.

When Princess Wilhelmina was a child, the Indigo Kingdom invaded her homeland. Ten years later, Wil and the other noble children who escaped are ready to fight back and reclaim Wil’s throne. To do so, Wil and her best friend, Melanie, infiltrate the Indigo Kingdom palace with hopes of gathering information that will help them succeed.

But Wil has a secret—one that could change everything. Although magic has been illegal for a century, she knows her ability could help her save her kingdom. But magic creates wraith, and the deadly stuff is moving closer and destroying the land.

And if the vigilante Black Knife catches her using magic, she may disappear like all the others....

  • A Hidden Identity: Posing as a refugee noble, Wil must navigate the glittering dangers of the royal court where one wrong move could expose her as the rightful queen—and a magic user.
  • A Found Family: She isn’t alone. Wil leads the Ospreys, a tight-knit band of fellow orphans, in a desperate mission to reclaim their home and avenge their parents.
  • High-Stakes Political Intrigue: To win back her kingdom, Wil must steal secrets from the very heart of the enemy’s power, all while a deadly, magic-born plague called the wraith creeps ever closer.
  • An Enemies to Lovers Romance: A mysterious vigilante known as Black Knife hunts all magic users. He’s her greatest threat, but their repeated clashes reveal a connection neither of them can ignore.

I'm not a big reader and I'm picky about books because an author really has to pull me in and keep me in to finish their book. This was an amazing book. It took me about 2 weeks to finish. I'm so glad I purchased this AFTER Jodi made the second book because of the ending. So much happening from the beginning to the end. Love this book! It was very well written! The imagery, the characters, everything was simply superb.

I picked it random at the library, so glad I did! Had action but not gore, all over emotion, such a well written book! Can't wait to start the next one!
