关于此电子书

A veteran Hong Kong nurse with 18 years of frontline clinical experience and 21 years in nursing management shares how the Buddhist Four Immeasurables — loving-kindness, compassion, sympathetic joy, and equanimity — can transform everyday nursing into genuine healing.

From rushing through dark stairwells at night to deliver a message for a patient who miraculously awoke from subarachnoid hemorrhage, to sitting with a couple facing a high-risk brain tumor surgery and helping them find peace before signing the consent form, these true stories reveal how a simple act of presence can relieve the deepest suffering.

In an era when AI and robots are rapidly replacing jobs across industries, nursing remains one of the few professions that cannot be automated. Machines can execute procedures, but they cannot offer a sincere smile, patient listening, or the warmth of true understanding.

With humility and heartfelt honesty, the author shows young nurses that technical skill is important, but the real essence of nursing lies in the Four Immeasurables. This is more than a book about healthcare — it is a profound reflection on life, death, and the quiet power of compassion at the bedside.

For nurses, nursing students, patients, and families alike, this is a gentle yet powerful reminder: the teachings may be simple, but they are truly worth devoting a lifetime to practice.

作者简介

Wei Lin is a contemplative man and lifelong seeker. Now in his seventies, he has long since passed the age of recklessness. Formerly employed in the service industry, he understands the mundane realities of life yet recognizes the pure light within the heart. His hospital experience shaped his understanding of suffering, vigilance, and the quiet heroism of nurses.

In the 1980s, he briefly took monastic vows, observing the Eight Precepts and studying under Masters Baodeng, Jinshan, and Zhifan. His character remains unconventional — a free-spirited wanderer who dwells with his wife and daughter, walks with dogs, and finds companionship in half the Analects, guidance in Buddhist verses, and a mirror for the heart in chapters of military strategy.

Though his life is stable and his family harmonious, he delights in the company of ancient sages, finding solace in classical texts and inspiration without barriers. His thoughts know no fixed rules, and his writing reflects a mind that navigates its remaining years without growing old.

This booklet is one of many distillations — not just of clinical knowledge, but of a life spent listening, watching, and walking slowly through the world.
