Love this book. It is very descriptive and easy to understand while providing lots of options and multiple techniques. Very helpful for rescuers working in any type of terrain and conditions. It is a must have for any rope rescue team.

I would highly recommend this book. Having known the author for many years I have seen the effort that has gone into it. From the basics to deep diving on a number of topics the book, and the other volumes, cover it all. I also know that the author continues to be highly motivated and will keep updating the book with newer methods and best practices.

Tech Rescue: Volume 1 is an excellent book for those rescuers who want to begin their journey into the rope rescue world. It gives rescuers all the information needed to gain a solid understanding of rope rescue at the Awareness and Operations levels. The information is presented in an easy to understand format. I appreciate the step by step instructions for the techniques covered in the book. Important concepts, key terms and safety warnings are all highlighted throughout the book. This book is a must have for anyone interested in acquiring the skillsets needed for Awareness and Operations level performance.

About the author

STEVE CRANDALL has been in the rescue world for over three decades. Currently serving as the Special Operations Captain for a professional fire department, he started as a wilderness-based search and rescue team member in the 1980s. Later transitioning his love for all things rescue into a full-time career, Steve has served as a firefighter, paramedic, Tactical Medic, SWAT Team Leader, Training Captain, Fire/Heavy Rescue Captain, as well as the Team Coordinator/Program Manager and lead instructor for his department’s technical/heavy rescue team. In addition, he also served as a Rescue Specialist, Heavy Rigger, and Rescue Squad Officer on one of the 28 United States FEMA/US&R Task Forces. As the owner and operator of Heavy Rescue Training LLC, Steve has trained thousands of rescuers across North America and other areas worldwide. He has been an active rock and ice climber for more than 40 years and has worked as a professional climbing instructor, guide, and rope access worker.
