About this ebook

The first book in New York Times bestselling author Scott Westerfeld’s Midnighters series.

A few nights after Jessica Day arrives in Bixby, Oklahoma, she wakes up at midnight to find the entire world frozen. For one secret hour each night, the town belongs to the dark creatures that haunt the shadows. And only a small group of people—Jessica included—is free to move about then. They are the Midnighters.

From the acclaimed New York Times bestselling author of the Uglies series, coming soon as a major motion picture on Netflix!

Joining the Midnighters is her only chance for survival. But what happens when the monsters that own the darkness notice the new girl?

  • A Secret World at Midnight: Every night, the town of Bixby, Oklahoma, freezes for one secret hour—a hidden world of shimmering blue light, ancient magic, and terrifying creatures.
  • Teens with Hidden Powers: Meet the Midnighters, a group of teens who are the only ones awake during the blue hour, each gifted with a unique and powerful ability to fight the darkness.
  • Creatures of Darkness: The secret hour belongs to the darklings, ancient and intelligent monsters that can twist their shape and hunt the shadows, and they don’t like intruders.
  • A Found Family Trope: To survive, Jessica must earn her place among the Midnighters—a seer, a polymath, a mindcaster, and an acrobat—and learn to trust them before the darkness consumes her.
  • Gritty Urban Fantasy: Perfect for fans of paranormal adventure, this series starter from Scott Westerfeld, the author of Uglies, is packed with non-stop action, unique magic, and a world hidden just past midnight.

Good story, interesting topic and many layers. The only real frustrating part about the story is how little the main characters communicate with each other. They're trying to figure out a bunch of puzzles and new things that are happening to their midnight world, yet each one has their own theories based on the research they've done but no one communicates with each other. i feel like the cover gives off an older woman look than a high schooler, but the cover sometimes doesn't match anyway. I've only read the sample, but there's definitely something interesting here. being a fan of his work since the Uglies when I read it in 5th grade YEARS ago and then going on to read the next 3 books on my own, I have high hopes for this series already!
