About this ebook

Two siblings have their world upended by the arrival of three vampire sisters fleeing the Night World and their ruthless older brother in this second book in L.J. Smith’s beloved Night World young adult series.

Briar Creek, Oregon, has never seen anything like the supernatural grace of Rowan, Kestrel, and Jade Redfern, who move into their great-aunt’s dilapidated old house only a couple weeks before school starts. At first, their new neighbor Mary-Lynnette Carter hopes to set one of them up with her shy younger brother, Mark…until she sees them bury something that looks suspiciously like a body in the backyard under cover of night.

Mark thinks Mary-Lynnette is just imagining things, but if there’s one good thing to come of her amateur sleuthing, it’s him getting the chance to meet Jade, the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen—even if she is a bit strange.

Jade and her sisters are hiding a very big secret: they are vampires, fugitives from the Night World. Finally fed up with the old-fashioned patriarchy of their hidden world, they are trying to live among humans. But their brother Ash is hot on their trail, determined to restore the family honor and bring them home by any means necessary—and more than willing to ignore the bizarre connection he feels with Mary-Lynnette.

Before long, Mark and Mary-Lynnette are plunged into a whole new world of fangs and blood and vampire neighbors who swear they have nothing to do with the mutilated animals turning up all over town…

The sister squad (Rowan = cottagecore, Kestrel = chaotic feral, Jade = shy indie) keeps the banter snappy and the plot moving. Mary-Lynnette is every introvert who just wants to stargaze and mind her business — until murder and ancient vampire politics crash the party. Ash’s glow-up from annoying bad boy to semi-decent guy lands; the redemption arc feels earned. Low-key feminist moments. The girls set boundaries, call out toxic vibes, and rewrite immortal rules. Love that. Peak 90s slang and outfits — cute nostalgia, but it can yank you out of the story like a rogue dial-up tone. “Soulmate at first sight” trope is heavy. If that gives you hives, brace yourself. The whodunit wraps too fast, so the last chunk feels more like an extra-long epilogue. If you’re down for vintage YA paranormal that still slaps — think The Vampire Diaries energy minus the soap-opera level melodrama — this is worth a weekend binge.

Incredible book, but can i ask why is the book 10$ bucks? But i do have to say, I'm truly DYING to find out the outcome for Ash and Mary-Lynnette... his cousin James(Jamie)did tell him he'd find someone and it would hurt a lot. Maybe him finding who he was, to what his heart wants, is really going to hurt? Tho these books r old, I've only begun to read, getting vol.2 tomorrow. We shall see, fingers are crossed
