About this ebook

The ChatGPT Automation Playbook is a detailed, practical guide to ChatGPT for Small Business Automation for readers who want a clear path from understanding the topic to using it confidently in real situations. The book is designed as a structured learning companion rather than a shallow overview: it introduces the core ideas, explains why they matter, then develops them through realistic examples, guided practice, scenario-based explanations, and common mistakes to avoid. Readers are taken step by step from foundational concepts into everyday applications, with each chapter building on the previous one so the material feels progressive, usable, and easy to revisit. The main areas of focus include The Time Audit: Where Your 40 Hours Really Go, What ChatGPT Can and Can't Do for Your Business, The Five Questions Framework: Finding Every Automation Opportunity, Your First Automation: Build a Working System in 30 Minutes, The Seven Deadly Automation Mistakes and How to Dodge Them, From Overwhelmed to Automated: Real Case Studies, Prompt Engineering for Busy Owners: The S.P.E.C.I.F.I.C. Method, The 5-Day Support Takedown: Email and FAQ Automation, The Content Engine: Turn One Idea into a Month of Posts, Buy, Build, or Blend: Your AI Tool Stack Decision Guide, giving the book a concrete learning arc that moves from orientation and confidence-building to applied communication, problem solving, and independent practice. The writing style is direct, supportive, and accessible, making the book suitable for self-study, classroom reinforcement, professional development, or personal improvement. It emphasizes practical understanding over abstract theory, so readers can immediately connect the lessons to conversations, decisions, habits, and challenges they are likely to face outside the page. By the end of the book, readers should have not only a stronger grasp of the subject, but also a collection of repeatable strategies, useful language patterns, mental models, and practical routines they can continue applying after they finish reading.

About the author

Janice Welch is an automation consultant and the founder of Brightwork Operations, a firm that helps small businesses and solo entrepreneurs put AI to work on their most repetitive tasks. For more than fifteen years, she ran a marketing operations company serving hundreds of small businesses, where she built her reputation on a simple observation: the owners she met weren't short on talent or effort—they were short on time, and most of that time was disappearing into work that a machine could do.

After restructuring her own business around automation and watching her team's capacity grow without adding headcount, she began teaching the same methods to other operators. Since then, she has guided more than three hundred small businesses through the transition from manual work to AI-assisted workflows. Her clients range from boutique retailers and tradespeople to law firms and marketing agencies.

Janice is a regular speaker at small business associations and chamber of commerce events, and she writes a widely read newsletter on practical AI for business owners. The ChatGPT Automation Playbook is her first book, born from the recurring request she hears at every workshop: "Just show me exactly what to do." She lives in Richmond, Virginia, where she is currently automating her own inbox, her gardening notes, and anything else that stands still long enough.
