About this ebook

Davian has won a victory for the Augurs, but treachery surrounds him and his allies on all sides in the second book of the acclaimed Licanus Trilogy, in which "fans of Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson will find much to admire." (The Guardian)

Following a devastating attack, an amnesty has been declared for all Augurs -- finally allowing them to emerge from hiding and openly oppose the dark forces massing against the land of Andarra.

The Augur Davian and his new allies hurry north toward the ever-weakening Boundary, but fresh horrors along their path suggest that their reprieve may have come far too late.

The new Northwarden, his ally in the Capital, contends with assassins and politicians and uncovers a dangerous secret. Meanwhile, their compatriot Asha begins a secret investigation into the disappearance of the Shadows.

And Caeden races against time to fulfill a treacherous bargain, but as more and more of his memories return, he begins to realize that the two sides in this ancient war may not be as clear-cut as they first seemed. . .

I feel bad giving this a 3 star. TLDR: Lots of good and it's worth reading. Problem is how emotionally disconnected Davian, Asha, and Wirr are. First off, the story and world/lore building is incredible. 5/5 Everything regarding Caeden and Tal'Kamar makes this series worth continuing. 5/5 The problem is literally everyone else. Davian, Asha, Wirr, practically every other protagonist just has 0 feelings. The author is so disconnected with them that it really takes a toll on the book. No matter what hardship they go through or what awaits each other, they have no internal/emotional turmoil that they experience. It seems as if they don't care about each other even. It was also a problem with the 1st book but it has escalated in the 2nd. Which is a shame because this series really has a lot going for it. I would still recommend giving the story a read because it is worth it for the story, lore/world building and Caeden.

About the author

James Islington was born and raised in southern Victoria, Australia. His influences growing up were the stories of Raymond E. Feist and Robert Jordan, but it wasn't until later, when he read Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series -- followed soon after by Patrick Rothfuss' Name of the Wind -- that he was finally inspired to sit down and write something of his own. He now lives with his wife and daughter on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria.
