About this ebook

Higson's terrifying, utterly compelling prequel to The Enemy introduces an all-new cast of characters and sets the stage for the dramatic third book in The Enemy Novel series.

The disease only affects people sixteen or older. It starts with the symptoms of a cold. Then the skin begins to itch, and spots appearβ€”spots that soon turn into pus-filled boils. But the worst part is the headache, the inner voices that tell you that you need to eat them ... the young ones.

When the Disaster strikes, the world turns upside down for Ed, Jack, Bam, and the other students at Rowhurst School. The parents and older siblings they left back at home are deadβ€”or worse. Once the teachers go on the attack, the kids know it's time to escape and make their way to the city. It's got to be better in London ... or will it be worse?

This book is the first to take place in The Enemy series, and it does provide some origins to the things in the other books. It gives the origin to St. George, the people who saves Sam and The Kid at the end of The Enemy, and the kids that live in the Natural History Museum. The story is pretty good, kids in London try to survive adults that basically became zombies. Characters were good, but some deaths felt abrupt.

Not a fan of zombie books until this author came along! Excellent writing & character development had me roped in from book 1; now I can't wait to read the whole series!

Interesting twist on the whole zombie genre, interesting characters, but pretty gross. How many ways does someone have to describe a living, rotting, diseased thing trying to eat kids? Other than that, I really like the books.

About the author

Charlie Higson is an acclaimed comedy writer, producer, actor, and genuine James Bond aficionado. He is the author of the adult thrillers, Full Whack and King of the Ants; the internationally best-selling Young Bond series: SilverFin, Blood Fever, Double or Die, Hurricane Gold, and By Royal Command; and two books in the Enemy series. Charlie is a fan of zombie movies and believes that we shouldn't try to prevent young people from experiencing fear, because it helps prepare them for later life. When writingThe Enemy, he kept rachetting up the action and description in an attempt to frighten the pants off his ten-year-old son. He lives in London.
