About this ebook

Easy Summary- The Night Shift Code

Leah Mercer is a nineteen-year-old woman who starts working at the Civic Response Center during the night shift. The center is a large, dark building in an old part of the city. It handles calls about missing people, dangerous situations, broken traffic lights, floods, and other emergencies.

Leah does not take the job only to earn money. Her mother, Evelyn Mercer, worked in the same building before disappearing seven years earlier. Evelyn left behind a half-packed suitcase and no clear explanation. The police searched for her but eventually stopped. Some people believed that Evelyn had run away, while others thought she had died.

Leah never believed either explanation. Her mother had always been careful and loving. She would not have left Leah without saying goodbye.

Leah secretly hopes that working at the center will help her discover what happened to Evelyn. During her first four nights, the job seemed normal. She answers calls about barking dogs, leaking pipes, broken streetlights, and strangers sleeping in hallways.

Everything changes on Leah’s fifth night.

At exactly 1:43 in the morning, Station 47 receives a strange call. The caller’s telephone number does not appear on Leah’s screen. A calm woman gives Leah her name and address.

However, the woman is not reporting a crime that has already happened. She says that someone is going to murder her in the future.

Before the call ends, the woman gives Leah a secret employee number. Leah immediately recognizes it as the confidential number that once belonged to her missing mother.

No stranger should know that code.

Leah begins to understand that Evelyn’s disappearance is connected to the Civic Response Center. The dark building may be hiding secret calls, dangerous people, and terrible crimes.

The building has not forgotten Evelyn Mercer.

Now, through a mysterious telephone call, it has begun speaking to her daughter.
