About this audiobook

As the youngest son, TJ Laughlin has always had a lot to prove. His driven siblings could do no wrong in his parents’ eyes, and then there was TJ, who no matter what he accomplished he was never good enough. Although he was well loved, he always felt like they didn’t expect a lot out of him.

Now the owner of The Stag distillery with his two best friends, TJ has found his calling: whiskey and weddings. If he could only get Jen Mackenzie, the girl he’s secretly had a thing for since high school, to take a chance on him, TJ’s life may finally start falling into place.

Jen Mackenzie’s life has been anything but easy. Tied to this small town by an ill mother and her own broken dreams, Jen has felt stuck since the local community theater closed and she lost her job. Working at The Stag is her one saving grace, even though that means answering to TJ Laughlin, the one man who’s always made her feel inadequate. Used to standing on her own, Jen can take care of herself and her mother; but when TJ steps in to offer his support, will Jen be able to open up to the possibility of love?

I really enjoyed reading Maybe This Time by Nicole McLaughlin, part of her Whisky and Weddings series. Life has been difficult for Jen Mackenzie. Each time she gets knocked down she picks herself back up and tries again. Since losing her job when the community theater closed and trying to help her mother beat cancer, life and lack of finances are starting to catch up with her. Working at The Stag as a bartender and temporarily as the wedding venue planner has become her saving grace. Now if only TJ Laughlin, one of the owners and high school classmate, didn’t make her feel incompetent. TJ has cared for Jen since high school, albeit secretly. Being her boss and working closely with Jen made it difficult for TJ to watch her struggle. Jen views accepting help, especially from TJ, makes her weak, but TJ only sees beauty and strength. As things heat up, finally, between these two they need to learn that love is about communication as well as give and take. When Jen is offered a job of a lifetime will it destroy all she has with TJ or will they both learn that compromise might be the answer? I loved reading this story. Ms. McLaughlin is wonderful storyteller, keeping me interested in this story so that I had trouble putting it down. I felt for Jen and all the demands on her as well as lack of knowledge in knowing how to handle the stress. I recommend this great book to other readers. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

About the author

Nicole McLaughlin wrote her first full-length book (six pages) about the birth of her baby sister, when she was eight years old. She only finished it because her mother bribed her with a Rick Astley cassette tape. Sad, but true. Now her characters are what keep her writing and her subject matter has gotten a little bit deeper and a lot more romantic. She resides in a small town outside Kansas City with her husband and three sons. When she isn’t writing, she’s a wedding and portrait photographer who loves to cook and watch historical dramas or documentaries.
