The Tryer: Beyond The Lights

In the sun-drenched town of Ingham, North Queensland, a boy with raw talent and bigger dreams finds himself on a collision course with fame, failure, and the weight of expectation. Kai Dunbar lives and breathes rugby league—despite the warnings, despite the odds. When opportunity comes calling from the bright lights of the NRL, he takes it with both hands. But success has a shadow.

Set between the cane fields of the north and the high-stakes arenas of professional sport, this is a powerful, slow-burn portrait of ambition, loyalty, and consequence. Written in a compelling investigative style, the story traces a young man’s rise, his unravelling, and the quiet road back off the field.

Some dreams lift you. Others test your soul.
