About this audiobook

Why do so many kind, caring people still judge difference?

Why are children labelled “naughty” instead of understood, parents blamed instead of supported, and neurodivergent individuals expected to mask rather than belong?

And what is the true cost of stigma?

In STIGMA, Jennifer McKay delivers a powerful, compassionate, and deeply insightful exploration of how judgement, shame, and misunderstanding shape lives — particularly for those affected by ADHD, autism, mental health challenges, and special educational needs (SEN).

Blending psychology, neuroscience, education, real-life case studies, and lived experience, this book exposes the hidden systems and cultural narratives that perpetuate stigma, even among well-intentioned people. It reveals how schools, healthcare, media, parenting culture, and social expectations quietly reinforce shame, exclusion, and emotional harm — often without realising it.

Through moving personal stories and professional insight, McKay shows how stigma damages identity, mental health, self-worth, relationships, and opportunity — and, crucially, how we can change it.
