You need systems that work with your brain.
This book helps you build them — one small, manageable step at a time.
Jennifer McKay is a Special Educational Needs (SEN) teacher with Advanced Higher Skills (AHS) training and extensive experience as a SENCO, working across mainstream and specialist educational settings.
Through her SENCO roles, Jennifer has supported children and young people with ADHD, autism, and complex additional needs, while also working closely with parents, teaching staff, and external professionals to build inclusive, practical support systems that genuinely work in real schools.
Alongside her professional work, Jennifer is an ADHD mum of three — a lived experience that shapes her understanding of neurodivergence beyond policy, paperwork, and theory. She understands the daily realities: time blindness, emotional overwhelm, executive function challenges, and the constant balancing act of family life.
Jennifer’s writing blends evidence-informed practice with real-world strategies, focusing on clarity, compassion, and achievable solutions rather than unrealistic routines or deficit-based narratives. Her work is trusted by parents, educators, and professionals for its honesty, accessibility, and deep respect for neurodivergent individuals.
When she isn’t writing or training, Jennifer is navigating school runs, forgotten PE kits, colour-coded calendars, SEN paperwork, and family life — with humour, resilience, and a strong belief that neurodivergent brains don’t need fixing, they need understanding and the right support.
