American history celebrates twelve legendary inventors whose discoveries transformed civilization.
But there was a thirteenth.
His name was erased.
When historian Daniel Reed discovers a strange reference to Inventor 13 inside an old patent archive, he assumes it is a clerical mistake. Then he finds the same mysterious number hidden inside dozens of famous American inventions.
A telephone.
An early computer.
A revolutionary engine.
A medical device.
A communications system.
Each contains a tiny signature connected to the same unknown inventor.
Daniel begins tracing the clues and discovers something impossible: Inventor 13 never wanted credit. Instead, he secretly advised some of America's greatest scientific minds, giving them ideas that would later become famous under their own names.
But why?
Daniel eventually learns that Inventor 13 believed technological progress was moving too quickly. He deliberately distributed his knowledge among different inventors so no single person could possess enough information to create the ultimate machine.
Now someone has found the missing pieces.
And they are rebuilding his final invention.
