William James (1842-1910) was a pioneering American philosopher and psychologist, often dubbed the "father of American psychology". As the first educator to offer a psychology course in the United States, he fundamentally shaped modern thought by championing the school of pragmatism, radical empiricism, and the functionalist view of the mind.
