American artist and author Wanda Hazel Gág was born March 11, 1893, in New Ulm, Minnesota. She is most famous for her children's books, including Millions of Cats (1928) and The Funny Thing (1929). As a poet and artist, some of her earliest works were published in The Minneapolis Journal and as a young woman she held exhibitions of her artwork at the Weyhe Gallery in New York City. From the pages of New Masses magazine, to the rhymes of Mother Goose, Wanda Gág brought wit and style through her stark but beautiful black-and-white view of the world.
