Robert Kirk (1644-1692) was a Scottish Episcopalian minister and Gaelic scholar, minister of Aberfoyle from 1685 until his death. A noted Gaelic linguist, he produced the first metrical Psalms translation in Scottish Gaelic and helped print the first Gaelic Bible. Around 1691 he wrote The Secret Commonwealth, a study of fairy belief and second sight in the Highlands, left unpublished at his death - he died suddenly on Doon Hill, the fairy knoll he had written about, earning him the nickname "The Fairy Minister." The manuscript was first published in 1815.
