Rafael Sabatini

Rafael Sabatini (1875-1950) was an Italian-born British novelist best known for historical adventure fiction. Fluent in several languages and raised in an international household, he wrote in English and achieved major success with novels including Scaramouche, Captain Blood, and The Sea Hawk. Sabatini's fiction combines political intrigue, swordplay, maritime danger, and theatrical reversals, often setting personal honour against corrupt authority. His swashbuckling style helped define twentieth-century historical adventure and influenced later stage and screen treatments of pirates, rebels, and romantic outlaws.
