Margaret B. Pumphrey

Margaret was born in Iowa in 1872 and later moved to Illinois where she taught Primary School. She wrote her first book, "Pilgrim Stories" to encourage her students to read. In the book she wrote about the Pilgrims' life in England, their time in Holland, and their trip to America. Her stories were so captivating, the students' reading skills improved and the writing style helped them identify with the characters thus awakening a desire for history and biographies.
