Kamakshi Pappu Murti is a retired professor of German Studies. She has published children’s books focusing on young and older teens. Following Lalli, a teen who has lost a leg in an accident, Murti describes how the teen’s prosthetic leg alters her narrow, self-absorbed perception of the world: “Lalli’s Window” and “Lalli Unveils a Window” exemplify Lalli’s mental growth. “Yasemin and Nirmala: A Tale of Two Teens” continues to highlight the unfortunately negative perception of physical disabilities. Murti has also published murder mysteries featuring two indomitable female sleuths, avatars of Agatha Christie’s Jane Marple: “Murders Most Matronly” and “Murders in the Ivory Tower.” Her scholarly writing addresses multi-cultural issues, and gender studies (“India: The Seductive and Seduced ‘Other’ of German Orientalism” and “To Veil or not to Veil: Europe’s Shape-shifting ‘Other’.”)
