Ernst Junger (1895-1998) was one of Germany's greatest novelists of the post-war era, not passing until age 102 in 1998. As a youth, he became a German war hero, but joined the plot against Hitler, and later became friends with the President of France, the former enemy. Mr. Junger renounced the wars of his youth, and became an advocate of peace and European unity.
