Enki Bilal

Enki Bilal (b. 1951) is a visionary French-Yugoslavian artist and filmmaker whose work defines the aesthetic of "dark futuristic romanticism." Renowned for his painterly, "dirty" style and muted palettes, he creates sprawling dystopian narratives-such as the iconic Nikopol Trilogy-that explore the intersection of human memory, geopolitical decay, and the hibridization of man and machine. As a pioneer who bridged the gap between graphic novels and fine art, Bilal was the first comic artist to hold a solo exhibition at the Louvre Museum, cementing his status as a primary philosopher of the modern sci-fi genre.
