Edward Timperlake

Ed Timperlake began his Marine flying career after graduating TBS (The Basic School) in December 1969. Very early in his training he ejected out of an exploding jet on a night solo on takeoff below 1000 feet. Surviving that event, he made a commitment to continue to fly as long as the Marines would let him. Seventeen years later he finished his career as Commanding Officer VMFA -321 and he accumulated slightly over 3000 hours, of which 2000 were in the F-4 Phantom and the remainder in A4-E Skyhawk When medically recovering from being medically evacuated from "The Rose Garden," he was allowed to fly co-pilot in the UH-1E for 200 hours where he discovered the fun of flying helicopters.
