R. Austin Freeman
R. Austin Freeman (1862–1943) was a British writer and physician, recognized as one of the great innovators of detective fiction. He achieved fame as the creator of Dr. John Thorndyke, an investigator who applies scientific methods and forensic knowledge to solving crimes.
