A. Merritt

A. Merritt (1884–1943) born Abraham Merritt, was an American journalist, editor, and writer of fantasy and speculative adventure. He worked for many years in newspaper publishing while producing richly atmospheric fiction for popular magazines. His best-known works include The Moon Pool, The Metal Monster, The Ship of Ishtar, and Dwellers in the Mirage. Merritt's stories often combine remote settings, lost races, occult suggestion, and luxuriant sensory description. His fiction helped shape early twentieth-century fantasy and weird adventure, standing between Victorian romance, pulp magazine storytelling, and later speculative fiction.
