TWELVE EVENINGS
A whole science in twelve evenings
WHAT DO I ALREADY KNOW ABOUT THIS?
How many things around us seem perfectly obvious until someone asks, “But how does that actually work?” Twelve Evenings. What Do I Already Know About This? is a series of short, engaging courses for curious readers aged 15 and up, especially those who tend to ask one more question and suddenly discover an entire world hiding behind it.
Start with The World and the Universe and find out why quantum physics sometimes seems determined to ignore common sense, what lies in the depths of the ocean, what drives Earth’s climate, and what the future of energy might look like.
Then move on to Life, Humans, and the Brain: discover why the brain can confidently tell us things that never happened, how millions of years of evolution shaped us, what our immune system is actually doing all day, and what happens to consciousness while we sleep.
In Technology and the Digital World, the questions become unmistakably modern: what artificial intelligence can really do, whether anything online can truly stay secret, how cryptography works, and why technology is quietly changing not only our devices, but us.
Next comes Society, Money, and Communication, where things get surprisingly personal: why sensible people make irrational purchases, who is competing for our attention, how negotiation, body language, leadership and reputation work, and why the career you choose tomorrow may not even exist today.
With History, Culture, and Critical Thinking, it becomes dangerously easy to lose track of time: vanished civilizations, archaeological mysteries, the history of languages, rituals, the Illuminati, scams, legends, and one very useful question worth asking more often: “Is this a fact, a hypothesis, or simply a very good story?”
Each course is designed for twelve evenings. You do not need a degree before you begin, but you do get clear explanations, solid facts, essential terms, quizzes with answers, reliable sources, and a trail to follow if twelve evenings turn out not to be enough.
The series is made to broaden your horizons and strengthen a skill you will probably use far more often than a formula memorized for an exam: spotting connections, asking better questions, separating what sounds convincing from what is actually supported by evidence, and refusing to be intimidated by a subject just because it has a complicated name.
Read the courses in order, choose one to match your mood, or open a book “just to have a look” and discover an hour later that you are somewhere between quantum particles, ancient cities, neurons, cryptographic codes, and economic paradoxes.
So there is really only one question left: what have you always wanted to understand but kept putting off? Maybe twelve evenings are all you need to begin.
