"We're the same, you and me. And people like us — we always fall in the end."

When a mutilated body is discovered in one of London's most public spaces, Detective Laura Foster is thrown into a murder investigation unlike anything she's faced before. The victim isn't just dead — it's a grotesque patchwork, assembled from the remains of multiple people. The message is clear: this killer wants to be seen.

As panic spreads and the press circles, Laura uncovers a chilling link between the murders and a prestigious London art school. The deeper she digs, the clearer it becomes that she's hunting a highly intelligent, highly theatrical serial killer — one who sees murder as art and London as their gallery.

Then Ophelia returns.

A year after vanishing without a trace, the enigmatic young woman reappears, claiming someone is watching her. Drawn back into Laura's orbit, Ophelia insists on helping with the case — but when she comes face to face with the killer, she realises the truth is far more dangerous than either of them imagined.

Because some monsters don't belong in a cell.

And stopping them may mean crossing a line there's no coming back from.

The Dead City is the second book in the Ophelia Trilogy – about a detective on the edge of oblivion and a crazed homeless girl who just might be able to help with her cases.
