moves into a cheap Beacon Hill apartment in Boston, she discovers an antique
mirror bolted to her bedroom wall. The mirror is flawless—impossibly so for
its age. At first, the reflections are subtle: a figure standing where no one
should be, a room rearranged in the glass but not in reality, a handprint
appearing on the surface from the inside. Then the visions sharpen.
A woman who looks exactly like Lena watches her from behind the glass with
terrible patience. As Lena investigates the mirror's history, she uncovers a
trail of women across two centuries who stood before the same glass and were
consumed by it one by one. Now the mirror wants her. It shows her memories
that are not hers, speaks in a voice that is not hers, and slowly,
methodically, convinces her that the person standing on this side of the glass
is the copy, and the real Lena has been trapped behind it all along.
Darkness Behind the Mirror is a literary psychological horror novel about
identity, grief, and the terrifying question of whether the monster lives
behind the glass or within the flesh.
Low Sarah is the author of three novels of psychological horror and suspense. Her work has been described as "Shirley Jackson meets Carmen Maria Machado" (The New York Times) and "the kind of horror that gets under your skin and stays there" (NPR).
She lives in Boston with her partner, two cats, and an alarming number of houseplants. She does not own any antique mirrors.
