About the author

John Bunyan (1628–1688) was an English preacher and writer best known for his allegorical masterpiece The Pilgrim's Progress, one of the most influential works in Christian literature. He was born in Elstow, England, into a humble family and worked as a soldier before becoming a Baptist preacher, despite having little formal education. His powerful preaching and nonconformist beliefs led to his imprisonment for several years for preaching without official permission. During his time in prison, he wrote much of his most important work, including The Pilgrim's Progress, which reflects his vision of the Christian life as a journey toward salvation. Bunyan is considered one of the most important figures of English Puritanism and a major influence in religious literature.
