An enchanted journey through the islands of Indonesia, where cunning princesses challenge witch princes, green giants chase brave maidens, and a single grain of rice hides a divine secret.
This book brings together seven great Indonesian fairy tales, adapted in vivid and engaging language for young readers. Stories passed down from generation to generation on the islands of Java and Sumatra, where magic is real, animals talk, and every mountain, lake, and temple holds a legend.
On these pages you will find:
Princess Roro Jonggrang, who with brilliant deception attempts to stop an army of temple-building demons. The warrior Sangkuriang , whose fury transforms a colossal boat into a volcano. The merchant Malin Kundang , forever petrified on the beach for denying his mother. The mysterious Golden Fish, whose broken secret gives rise to the majestic Lake Toba. The courageous Timun Mas, born from a golden cucumber, fleeing from the terrible Green Giant. The sweet Bawang Putih, whose humility wins a treasure hidden in a pumpkin. And the hunter Jaka Tarub, who steals the veil of a celestial nymph at a very high price.
Seven stories of courage, cunning, and justice that teach the value of gratitude, respect, and keeping your word, transporting readers to a distant and fascinating world where real Indonesian places come to life through fantasy.
