Truett Symone Talton is a digital illustrator, educator, and creative technologist based in the southeastern United States. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design, where she first encountered the iPad as an artistic tool and recognized its potential to democratize access to professional-quality digital art. Over the past decade she has built a career at the intersection of traditional art principles and emerging creative technology, working as a freelance illustrator for editorial publications, book covers, and independent game studios while simultaneously developing educational content for aspiring digital artists.
Her teaching philosophy is rooted in the belief that technique follows confidence. Before students can master blend modes and layer masks, they must believe they belong in the room where art is made—and Truett has dedicated her professional life to opening that door as widely as possible. Her workshops and online courses have reached tens of thousands of learners across six continents, and her signature approach emphasizes small, achievable wins that compound into lasting skill. She is known for breaking down intimidating concepts into language that respects the learner's intelligence while never assuming prior knowledge, a balance she credits to years of mentoring beginners who arrived with nothing but curiosity and a charged iPad.
In addition to her teaching work, Truett maintains an active illustration practice focused on narrative portraiture, botanical themes, and visual storytelling that explores identity, memory, and the natural world. Her work has been exhibited in group shows in Atlanta, Savannah, and Asheville, and her commercial projects include collaborations with brands in the outdoor gear, publishing, and sustainable fashion sectors. She is an Apple-certified Procreate trainer and has served as a featured speaker at digital art conferences including LightBox Expo and CTN Animation Expo.
When she is not illustrating or teaching, Truett can be found hiking the Appalachian foothills with a sketchbook and a field guide to native plants, both of which inevitably find their way into her next digital painting. She lives in North Carolina with her partner, two rescue dogs, and a collection of houseplants that doubles as her reference library. This is her first book.
