Two nations at war. One prize beyond compare.

For generations, the Hundred Isles have built their ships from the bones of ancient dragons to fight an endless war. The dragons disappeared, but the battles for supremacy persisted.

Now, the first dragon in centuries has been spotted in far-off waters, and both sides see a chance to shift the balance of power in their favor. Because whoever catches it will win not only glory but the war.

A book that goes out of its way to shirk both fantasy and high-seas tropes. The first several chapters are fairly miserable, but set up a story that is worth it if you stick with it. Many editing problems in the ebook copy.

The perfect girl-boss who effortlessly beats men up is such a tired trope at this point. Couldn't even make it past chapter 3.

I am a big fan of Joe Abercrombie and this book reminds me a bit of his style. I believe the label Grimdark applies as well. as one of the reviewers mentioned, there is a bit of a learning curve as the author drops you into his world with a bunch of terms only applicable there. If I had to sum it up, I would call it a 'High-Seas Grimdark adventure'
