This is a debut from an author to watch. Set deep in the Appalachian Mountains, where a school of magic lies tucked between ridges and hollers, Noelle Monét transported me into a world as original in its magic as it is grounded in the mystic, lore‑rich reality of the mountains themselves. I devoured every page.

Noelle Monét’s angst was cultivated in central North Carolina where the air is as thick as the gravy. A Lambda Literary Fellow, registered nurse, author, and business owner, she can often be found covered in the residue left behind by sticky toddler fingers, buried beneath her ever-growing physical TBR pile, or standing at the edge of the sea, overwhelmed by the vastness of the world. She lives on the coast with her partner, three kids, and two cats, Eloise and Greg.
