Another couple unite at Oakside. A relationship that starts in secrets, with the promise of a future. Dreams turn out differently when he is injured andvshe is pregnant. Her determination not to let him go proves trying at times, but eventually healing brings them closer when feelings and dreams resuface. Enjoyable short story, compliments and expands the series. This might seem like your typical “best friend’s little sister” story, but there’s so much more heart here. Caden returns home as a wounded soldier and Lucy fights fiercely for their love, the story had plenty of tender, emotional moments. Some things, and some people, are worth fighting for. I also adored the whole Oakside village. Lucy’s friends rallying around her and Caden’s brothers added warmth, humor, and that cozy small-town feel. The side characters truly brought the story to life.
