About this ebook

He’s her brother’s best friend. She’s never had a thing for single dads or younger men… until him.

Evan

I’ve built my life around two things: protecting my daughter, Skye, and serving Whiskey River as a detective.

Love? It’s off the table.

I can’t have both—it’s not fair to Skye, and I’ve already been burned once.

But when Calista Stapleton—the woman I’ve wanted for as long as I can remember—comes back to Whiskey River, all my carefully built walls start to crack.

She’s my best friend’s sister, and she’s supposed to be off-limits.

But when I’m injured on the job and she steps in to take care of me and Skye, it feels like she’s exactly where she’s meant to be.

Calista

I’ve spent the last decade pouring myself into everyone else—patients, family, responsibilities.

Now I’m back home, hoping to reconnect with my family and start fresh.

But Evan Greer is here, too—my little brother’s best friend, the man I’ve always tried to ignore.

He’s strong, stubborn, and so fiercely protective of his daughter, it makes my heart ache.

When he gets hurt, and my brother insists I move in to help him recover, the fragile line we’ve been balancing on starts to disappear.

Every day with him and his daughter makes it harder to ignore the pull between us.

But he’s my brother’s best friend, and if this falls apart, it won’t just be my heart on the line.

4.5 Stars This is the eighth book in the series. Detective Evan gets his story. This book had me at single dad. Then we had the intriguing tropes of reverse age gap and brother's best friend. Evan's daughter Skye is such a delight! I loved her to pieces. Calista is back in town at a crossroads with her career path when she unexpectedly finds herself moving in and helping Evan with his recovery. The instant bond Calista creates with Skye warmed my heart.

Kaci Rose has done it again..another successful series brought to a happy ending. Stolen glances, yearning for what they can't have, secret smiles and happy thoughts were all a result of a worrying moment. Younger man, older woman scenario. Evan is a single father, local cop and well liked, unofficially adopted into Calista's family and best friend to her brother Cody. Callista has returned to her home town, being between jobs is available to care for Evan, following him being shot on duty and involved in saving his life, also caring for his daughter Skye. Off limits or off grid relationship. Telling Cody would be disastrous ans secrecy is hard to maintain as it is difficult for all. Fate has a way of carving the path in order to smooth their passage for being accepted. Looking forward to the next series, especially learning who Cody's secret yearning is for.
