The rift snaps shut, but not before a soul-bond forges between them: every petal that falls from the black dahlias now shortens their shared lifespan. To sever the bond, they must find the original seed from which the cursed flowers grew, a seed hidden by Poppy’s mother before she vanished. Neither wants the tether. Poppy fears her emotions will destroy them both; Sable loathes being leashed to a mortal whose feelings burn brighter than hellfire.
As petals drop with alarming speed, they are forced into an uneasy alliance. Poppy’s grief keeps spawning more black dahlias; Sable’s barely contained arrogance scorches everything around them. Yet the bond begins to bleed truths: Poppy’s mother bargained with demons long ago, and Sable was never the monster history painted. Together they cross rain-soaked moors, abandoned greenhouses, and the mirror-realm of the Hollow Garden, racing against the wilting bouquet that counts down their lives.
In the end, only one can plant the final seed, an act that will either free them or bind them forever. When the last petal falls, Poppy must decide whether some flowers, and some demons, are worth never letting die.
